There's always something to do in the Masuria region! If not sailing or kayaking, then camping and mushroom picking, and if not, then we gladly take a closer look at nature and birds. So it's not as straightforward as just packing for Masuria and having one list for every year.

It's not like the Dominican Republic, where we always find sunshine and Caribbean blues. Masuria doesn't guarantee the weather, but there are always plenty of attractions. That's why many of us prefer it over hot islands. So what should you take to Masuria for a holiday?

The number of tourists in Masuria, both Polish and foreign, is growing. The picturesque nature, fondness for water sports, and also the unique cuisine attract them. Packing suitcases for a holiday is always a challenge that most of us don’t like. The problem is a bit smaller when we go to larger towns, where we can always buy what we forgot. However, we increasingly avoid big cities, choosing remote villages and quiet agritourism farms. What to bring with you to a region where we will likely face water?

Rainwear, such as raincoats, waterproof jackets with hoods, waterproof shoes, but also those suitable for entering the water. Lightweight waterproof pants will also be useful, working well for bike trips or sailing and rolled up in a backpack they won't take up much space. A good idea is also a cap with a visor made of waterproof material. It protects against rain and sun. Both shorts and jackets should be quick-drying because after rain, the sun always comes out and dries us fast enough that we don't have to think about where and what to change into. What else should be in your travel bag?

With an atlas around the world

Travels often associate with guidebooks, although when travelling within our own country, we rarely use them. However, a handy list of regional attractions is one thing, and a mushroom or bird atlas for mushroom lovers or those who come to admire unique nature is another matter. It's important not to miss many specimens. Also, a guide to Masurian lakes may prove useful for those who like to orient themselves in the area and want to visit all the lakes. Returning to mushrooms and birds, it is worth getting rubber boots or other high shoes with membranes. High footwear protects not only against moisture but also possible contact with vipers, which thrive in wet areas. Let's remember that forests also harbor ticks, mosquitoes, and plants that can scratch.

Here it is important to have clothing with long legs and sleeves, even if it's warm. A cap, hood, poncho will provide protection against rain and annoying insects. Mushrooms also require appropriate accessories, such as a basket, a pocket knife with a brush to clean found specimens on the spot. Bird watching involves hiking through similar areas, so clothing should be similar. However, remember to bring binoculars, because birds don't necessarily want to come close and let themselves be observed up close.

Accommodation matters

Not all of us choose hotels with complete facilities at our disposal. Agritourism is another thing, and camping tents yet another. It goes without saying that the last option requires the most careful planning and perhaps the largest suitcase size. We need to bring as much warm clothing as possible, hoodies, tracksuits, sweaters, or jackets, but that's just the beginning, because you also need to find space for a whole bunch of accessories. Foam mats, sleeping bags, quick-drying towels, gas bottles and stoves, utensils, portable fridge, camping lamp, or camping furniture, and of course the tent itself. More and more people also include bikes in their luggage. Besides clothing and a bike helmet, we will take thermoses, backpacks, and bike locks with us.

Did someone forget their swimsuit? If so, it can still fit in a pocket. We don't go on summer holidays to places with smaller or larger bodies of water without it. And it must be on every packing list for Masuria, regardless of plans.
