Wolf's Lair in Gierłoż is a small town of bunkers surrounded by forest, lakes, and swamps. Distance - 33 km from Giżycko

This is the largest and most recognizable field headquarters of Adolf Hitler, which was in use from 1941 to 1945. The Wolf's Lair is located in Gierłoż near Kętrzyn and today, despite the fact that the Headquarters was blown up by the retreating Germans – it is a wonderful tourist attraction, visited by nearly a quarter of a million tourists annually. The bunkers still hide many mysteries and impress with their size, scale, and solidity.

Adolf Hitler spent a total of 800 days here, from where Operation Barbarossa (the attack on the USSR) was coordinated and where key decisions were made in managing the German war machine. Among others, Hermann Goering, Martin Bormann, Wilhelm Keitel, and Alfred Jodl also had their headquarters here. It was also the site of one of the many assassination attempts on Hitler's life – carried out by Claus von Stauffenberg in July 1944. Discover the history and specifics of the Führer's Headquarters in Gierłoż and learn how it was created and what fate awaited it after the war.
